I’m Maria Tran, an action choreographer and filmmaker redefining physical storytelling through bold, high-impact work across stage and screen.
As one of the few women in her field, Maria Tran continues to challenge the status quo—bringing much-needed diversity, perspective, and innovation to action choreography and movement direction.
As the founder of Phoenix Eye Films, a female-led production company, she explores the role of women in shaping physical storytelling through film and stage. With extensive experience across a range of productions, Maria has carved out a unique space for herself as a fight director and action choreographer.
In 2019, she was brought on by Bell Shakespeare to lead movement training for Macbeth, working with actors in the lead-up to its high-profile performances at the Sydney Opera House and the Melbourne Playhouse.
Her ability to deliver under pressure was also tested on the Bangladeshi action film Ayotti, where she had just two hours to meet the cast, assess their movement range, choreograph and rehearse scenes, plan camera angles, and direct the action. Despite the tight timeline, she delivered exceptional results—proving her versatility, speed, and creative precision on set.
